Fingerprints on the glass, loose powder around the rim, and everyday contact with other objects can leave a compact mirror looking less tidy. A little regular care is easier than trying to remove a buildup later.
For a decorative mirror, treat the glass, outer finish, and moving parts as separate areas.
Start with a Clean, Soft Cloth
Open the compact and check for loose particles before wiping it. Gently lift away visible dust rather than dragging it across the surface.
Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe fingerprints from the glass with light pressure. A cloth that has been sitting loose in a handbag may have picked up grit, so keep a separate one for cleaning.
If a mark remains, follow the cleaning instructions supplied with your mirror. Avoid spraying liquid directly into the compact, where it can reach the edges, hinge, or backing.
Be Gentle with the Decorative Exterior
